Georgina Harmer
Research Assistant
I am currently working as a Research Assistant within the Health Behaviours team. I am interested in the contribution that lifestyle factors such as diet, physical activity and stress have on the development of chronic illnesses such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease and cancer, and am passionate about identifying novel interventions to prevent or treat such diseases through lifestyle behaviour change.
I am currently working on a project in collaboration with the Department of Physiology, Anatomy and Genetics, carrying out a proof of concept trial investigating tracking the respiratory exchange ratio (RER) during dietary intervention using a novel handheld device. We are interested in identifying whether tracking the RER could be used as a motivational tool during dietary intervention and/or weight loss.
I am a Registered Associate Nutritionist (ANutr) with a BSc in Biomedical Science and an MSc in Human Nutrition. My previous research focused on the metabolic effects of varying the timing of carbohydrate intake throughout the day.
