Adults Regulating Their weight Everyday with Mobile Internet Support (ARTEMIS): A randomised controlled trial
The ARTEMIS project is a randomised controlled trial that investigates the effectiveness of a mobile application designed to help adults living with obesity manage their weight. The study involves 1,607 participants and compares the use of the app, which encourages daily self-weighing, action planning, weight tracking, and weekly reflections, against simple advice to lose weight. The app aims to provide a self-managed approach to weight loss, requiring no professional input.
Initial findings show that participants using the app achieved significant weight loss and experienced fewer symptoms of disordered eating compared to the control group. This suggests that the app could be a scalable, cost-effective solution for weight management at a population level. The project seeks to address the global challenge of obesity by offering an accessible and sustainable digital health intervention.
