UK EQ-5D Valuation Study: Creating a New UK Values Set for EQ-5D-5L
The UK EQ-5D-5L valuation study is a critical project aimed at updating how we understand and value health outcomes in the UK. The EQ-5D-5L is a tool used to describe health states across five dimensions, such as mobility and self-care, with five levels of severity. This study has gathered preferences from the UK population to create a new set of values or 'weights' for these health states. These weights are crucial for calculating quality-adjusted life years (QALYs), a measure that combines the quality and the quantity of life lived, which is used to assess the cost-effectiveness of healthcare interventions.
With 1,200 participants contributing through interviews, the project marks a significant step towards more accurately reflecting current UK health values. The successful completion of data collection and the Steering Group's approval of the data quality pave the way for modelling the new value set, enhancing decision-making in healthcare policy and intervention evaluation.
