Open Access Policy
IS OPEN ACCESS REQUIRED?
The Department of Health and Social Care and the NIHR require that NIHR-funded researchers seek to publish their research outputs in a peer reviewed journal that is compliant with the policy on Open Access (see link below).
HOW TO COMPLY:
Research articles, non-commissioned reviews and final reports/executive summaries to be made available through Europe PMC within 6 months of publication, via Green or Gold OA.
The ‘one main research article’ per NIHR grant should be made Gold OA with a CC BY licence.
Grant-funded researchers should budget Gold fees in grant applications, or use any underspend on existing grants. Otherwise, researchers should apply for additional funding from NIHR.
NIHR Researchers should note that there is no cost for publishing in one of the NIHR fully open access journals.
IS FUNDING AVAILABLE?
The ARC Oxford funding processes allowed costs for one open access publication to be included in the application up to the value of £1,500 per publication.
If an ARC project requires funding for additional open access publications, please contact the ARC Programme Manager via the ARC generic email address (email@example.com), attaching a copy of the paper.
Funding for each additional publication will be reviewed and the researcher notified of funding within five days of receipt.
