Very Brief Opportunistic Advice on Smoking Cessation within Financial Guidance Services for People Living in Social Housing
This project explores an innovative approach to help people living in social housing quit smoking. Recognising that residents of social housing are more likely to smoke, thereby facing greater health risks and financial strain, Clarion Futures is offering brief advice on smoking cessation as part of its financial guidance service. The University of Oxford is assessing this service's feasibility and acceptability.
Participants are provided with advice on quitting smoking and a referral to a stop smoking app called the Smoke Free app, which supports them with counselling and access to nicotine replacement therapies or vapes. The project's aim is to evaluate whether such integrated support is practical and well-received. By addressing smoking in a financial advice setting, this initiative seeks to not only improve health outcomes but also alleviate some of the financial pressures associated with smoking. The findings could influence future practices in offering holistic support to social housing residents.
