OSI-GROWS: Improving Support for Child Anxiety through Online Intervention
OSI-GROWS is a project dedicated to making the Online Support and Intervention (OSI) programme a routine part of NHS-supported mental health services for children. By working with partner organisations, OSI-GROWS aims to improve how child anxiety is managed by offering effective online tools and training for families and clinicians. This initiative supports accessible, impactful interventions for childhood anxiety and fosters collaboration across mental health services.
What is OSI?
OSI is an online, therapist-supported platform that helps children tackle fears, worries, and anxiety. Through OSI, clinicians guide parents and carers in completing online modules and practicing anxiety-management strategies with their children. Weekly phone appointments between therapists and parents provide added support, allowing families to discuss progress and overcome any difficulties they encounter.
How OSI Works
- Online Modules: OSI includes 7 core modules (plus a follow-up module) that are released weekly. Each module takes around 30 minutes and includes videos, quizzes, and interactive worksheets. These tools guide parents and help track the child’s progress in managing anxiety.
- Weekly Telephone Support: Therapists connect with parents/carers for a 20-minute phone session each week to support the application of the strategies learned in the modules and address any challenges.
- Games App: An optional game app motivates children to practice the strategies with their parent or carer, making learning more engaging.
- By providing families with structured support and practical tools, OSI-GROWS aims to make effective anxiety management accessible for children and their families across the NHS.
