Activity Changes in MULtiple long-term conditions To Identify decline (MULTI): An Intervention Development Study
The MULTI project investigates whether changes in physical activity can signal a decline in health among older adults with Multiple Long-Term Conditions (MLTCs), such as arthritis and kidney disease.
Our aim is to develop a set of questions to measure reduced activity, creating an early warning system for health deterioration. This involves using new technologies like smartphone apps and fitness watches for data collection. The study addresses the challenge of diagnosing deteriorating health in MLTCs, where symptoms are often non-specific and overlapping.
We plan to co-create an intervention with patients and healthcare professionals, ensuring its relevance and effectiveness. The project's findings could lead to earlier detection of health decline, enabling timely care and potentially improving patient outcomes. It's particularly significant for empowering older adults in self-monitoring, potentially easing the burden on healthcare services. This research is pivotal in advancing self-management practices for older adults with MLTCs.
