The SHIP Study: A Service Evaluation and Mixed Methods Implementation Research Study of Hypertension Plus
The SHIP Study focuses on Hypertension Plus, a new self-monitoring and management system for hypertension (high blood pressure) in primary care.
Hypertension is a leading global risk factor for serious health conditions, affecting over 8 million adults in the UK. The Hypertension Plus system, developed by Omron PLC, allows patients and GPs to share information about home blood pressure levels and treatment recommendations, providing reminders and alerts for both parties.
This study evaluates the implementation of this system in real-world UK primary care settings. It aims to understand its adoption, impact on blood pressure control, and effect on healthcare workload. The study employs a service evaluation using anonymised routine care data and a mixed methods approach to examine the system's integration into clinical practice.
By investigating the barriers and facilitators of implementing Hypertension Plus, this research aims to enhance patient care in hypertension management and inform policy decisions on a wider scale.
