We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Ray Fitzpatrick FMedSci, who was a valued member of the NIHR ARC OxTV community. Ray led the ARC's 'Improving Health and Social Care' theme and was also a theme lead for our predecessor, the NIHR CLAHRC Oxford.
Throughout his career, Ray demonstrated a strong commitment to interdisciplinary and collaborative research. He held several senior positions within the University of Oxford, including the Professorship of Public Health and Primary Care and Head of the Department of Public Health.
Ray's expertise and leadership extended beyond the University, as he served on the Medical Research Council for 15 years and chaired its Public Health and Health Services Research Board. He was also the National Programme Director for the NIHR's Health Services and Delivery research and worked with Arthritis Research UK on its Scientific Advisory Committee.
Ray's contributions to the field of health research were immense, and his work on Patient Reported Outcomes transformed both academic discussions and medical practices. His ability to bridge the gap between academia and policy exemplified the core mission of the NIHR ARC OxTV.
Ray's passion for interdisciplinary research and his commitment to improving health and social care were unparalleled. He leaves behind an incredible legacy that will continue to inspire and guide our work at the NIHR ARC OxTV. We will deeply miss his wisdom, kindness, and unwavering dedication to making a positive difference in people's lives.
